Soviet prisoners in the SS Auschwitz

A telegram from Auschwitz about the capture of escaped Sonderkommando members including the Soviet prisoner of war Shenkarenko Alexander (prisoner 11526 of Jewish transport)

According to the telegram a planned mass breakout of the local crematoriums’ Sonderkommandos took place on October 7th 1944. Most of the prisoners were executed by shooting. However, some of the prisoners were missing. A. Shenkorenko who was born 10.10.1921 in Vitovc and (presumably) deported from Stalag (crop-haired, with number 11526 tattooed on the chest).

This telegram is the first authentic document from Auschwitz concentration camp officially confirming participation of the Soviet prisoners of war in Sonderkommando revolt.
